
USL2 leaders meet for final time this season

RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, August 2, 2006) - USL Second Division leaders Richmond Kickers (11-3-3, 36 points) and defending champions Charlotte Eagles (8-3-7, 31 points) meet for the fourth and final time this season at the University of Richmond Stadium on Saturday, August 5th at 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free Frisbee courtesy of Ukrop's. Additionally, all Pro Pass holders are invited to bring a buddy (ages 17 and under) to the game this weekend for free!
The Kickers close out the four-game series with the Eagles at home this weekend after earning seven points from Charlotte in a pair of wins and a tie. After winning the first two matches, 4-2 and 2-0 on May 12th in Charlotte and June 10th in Richmond respectively, the Kickers battled the Eagles to a 1-1 draw on the road. Currently, the Kickers reside at the top of the table with 36 points with the second-place Eagles trailing by just five points.
Recent Signings
Recent signing midfielder Dennis Fenemore (#26) saw 22 minutes of action with the Kickers last week after entering the game as a second-half substitute. A native of Middlesbrough, England, Fenemore recently joined the Kickers from the Western Mass Pioneers where he started the 2006 campaign with 11 games played for 537 minutes. Additionally, the Kickers added forward David Bulow (#25) of the Cape Cod Crusaders prior to the USL2 roster freeze date and Bulow will be available for selection this week upon the conclusion of the Premier Development League season (Cape Cod was ousted by Westchester in the PDL Conference Finals). Bulow finished the regular season second in scoring for the Crusaders with eight goals and three assists for 19 points and was responsible for two goals in Cape Cod's 3-0 PDL Eastern Conference semi-final win over the Williamsburg Legacy last weekend. A native of Denver, Colorado, Bulow rejoined the Crusaders in 2006 as player/assistant coach after leading Cape Cod to back-to-back championships (2003, 2004) and stints with Limavady United and Dungannon Swifts of the Irish League.
Players To Watch
Kickers: Forward Robert Ssejjemba (#14) continues to lead the Kickers and the USL2, recently notching his 14th goal of the season during the Kickers 2-1 loss to Wilmington last week. Midfielder Mike Burke (#19) holds the second-place scoring position in the league with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. Midfielder Sascha Görres (#23) tallied the Kickers only goal during the 1-1 draw in Charlotte on July 15th and now is fourth on the team with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale (#22) leads the league with a goals against average of 1.03 and posted his eighth shutout of the season in the Kickers 5-0 win in Harrisburg last month.
Eagles: Charlotte boasts an impressive roster with several returning MVP's from last year's Champion squad including USL2 Goalkeeper of the Year Chris McClellan (#0), Defender of the Year Josh Rife (#11) as well as Scoring Champion, Goal Scoring Champion and USL2 Most Valuable Player Jacob Coggins (#20). Defender Greg Schroeder (#9) tallied the Eagles' equalizer during the last meeting with the Kickers while midfielder Patrick Daka (#19) earned USL2 Team of the Week honors after registering two goals last week during Charlotte's 3-2 win over Harrisburg. Forward Dustin Swinehart (#18) made eight appearances on loan with the Kickers First Division Finalists team last season and tallied one assist for Richmond. Currently he is leading the team in scoring with five goals, four assists and 14 points.
Destiny (W-League) Players Garner All-Conference Honors
The Richmond Kickers Destiny of the USL W-League saw two players, forward Jenn Parsons and midfielder Sandra Anger, named to the W-League All-Central Conference team. A three-year veteran, Parsons led the Destiny in scoring with 13 goals for 26 points this season and finished in the W-League top 10 in goals and points categories. Named W-League Player of the Week two weeks ago, Anger was the Destiny's second leading scorer with six goals and three assists for 15 points. Both Parsons and Anger notched goals in the Destiny's 2-0 Central Conference semi-final win over Michigan last weekend before Richmond suffered a 1-0 loss to Charlotte in the Conference finals.
