USL PRO's Top Teams Face off on Saturday
August 22, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - August 22, 2014 - USL PRO's top two teams will face each other for the first time this season on Saturday night, as Orlando City SC (16-3-4, 52 points) is set to take on the Richmond Kickers (13-1-10, 49 points) in a decisive match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at City Stadium.
The match will be live-streamed via www.YouTube.com/RichmondKickers .
OCSC is currently in the midst of a three game road trip that began on Wednesday against the Charlotte Eagles. The upcoming fixture against the Kickers offers another difficult test for the league-leaders, as the Lions and Richmond have participated in many determining games since City's inception.
Orlando presently holds a 3-3-1 all-time record against the Virginia-based team, and with both teams closely vying for a Regular Season Championship, the upcoming match marks another significant contest in the race to the 2014 Commissioner's Cup.
Heading into Saturday's match, Orlando holds a three point advantage and one game in hand over the Kickers, who are riding a 21-game unbeaten streak in league play.
"It's obviously going to be a huge game for us," said Head Coach Adrian Heath. 'The Regular Season is not going to be won or lost this weekend, but if we were to win the game, it would go a long way in helping us achieve what we're trying to do."
City's newest additions, Rafael Ramos and Estrela, have joined the team and are available for selection against Richmond. Both former SL Benfica players were signed to multi-year deals earlier this month, adding talent and depth to the midfield and backline as Orlando pushes for its third Regular Season Title.
