May 22, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Los Zorros are on the hunt for their first back-to-back wins of the 2019 regular season when they host Austin Bold FC on Wednesday, May 22 at Chukchansi Park. Fresno is coming off 3-0 victory at LA Galaxy II that also saw the team rebound from its first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat to Sacramento Republic FC earlier in Week 10 which also ended their eight-match unbeaten streak.
Los Zorros are hungry to start a new streak against an Austin Bold FC side that is unbeaten in three of its last four, including a most-recent 2-2 draw at Orange County SC over the weekend.
It'll be a defensive battle in downtown Fresno as Fresno and Austin have allowed a Western-Conference low eight and nine goals, respectively. Austin goalkeeper Diego Restrepo has one clean sheet against Fresno - a scoreless draw on May 5, 2018 at Chukchansi Park when he was with San Antonio FC. Restrepo has recorded four shutouts in 2019, one more than Fresno goalkeeper CJ Cochran, but the two have posted near identical numbers in saves (Restrepo 24, Cochran 22) and goals allowed (eight).
Offensively, Fresno holds the upper hand in shooting accuracy (41.9% to 35%), shot conversion (17.2% to 10.3%), and shots on target (39 to 34), despite having played one less game. Fresno has cashed in those opportunities for 16 goals, which ranks 15th in the 36-team USL, while Austin's 10 goals scored rank near the bottom at 31st.
Forward Qudus Lawal is hot for Los Zorros with three goals in his previous two games, including a brace at Los Dos. Right winger Jackson has provided the spark needed to convert those goals with a Western Conference-best five assists. He had a goal and an assist in Week 10 to become the sixth Fresno player named to the USL Championship Team of the Week this season.
