USHL Honors Montpetit, Brown
April 21, 2010 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Veteran Waterloo Black Hawks forwards Brock Montpetit and J.T. Brown are both 2009-2010 All-USHL selections, the United States Hockey League announced on Wednesday.
Both players were named to the All-USHL Second Team, marking the fourth consecutive season that the franchise has had a player on the league's postseason First or Second Team. Each All-USHL squad is comprised of three forwards, two defensemen, and one goalie. The designation is awarded by a vote of league coaches.
"There's no question that Brock and J.T. played like All-Stars," said Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "I'm pleased to say - even though they came to Waterloo with a lot of talent - both worked to improve and mature their play during their time here."
The 2009-2010 campaign was Montpetit's third as a Black Hawk. The team Captain appeared in 55 regular season games, recording 28 goals and 41 assists, both career-best numbers. Montpetit was twice named the USHL's Offensive Player of the Week, November 30th and January 11th. He also appeared in the USHL All-Star game for a second time. For his USHL career, Montpetit finished with 142 points, fourth-most during the franchise's modern era, 53 goals (tied for eleventh), and 89 assists (third). Last December, Montpetit committed to play Division I NCAA hockey for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Brown was in his second season as a Black Hawk during 2009-2010. He was the USHL's third-ranking scorer, producing 77 points from 34 goals and 43 assists. The Burnsville, MN native was one of four Black Hawks to appear in all 60 games, earning recognition as USHL Offensive Player of the Week on March 23rd. Like Montpetit, Brown put his name into the Black Hawks record book with 113 points (tied for 14th), 48 goals (tied for 18th), and 65 assists (tied for 11th). He will attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
The Hawks have now had 25 selections to the All-USHL First, Second, or Rookie Teams since 1979-1980 when the league converted to an all-junior format. Seven of nine Black Hawks alumni who reached the NHL in that span had earlier earned All-USHL recognition.
