USHL completes entry draft

Published on May 13, 2009 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

Grand Forks, North Dakota - The United States Hockey League (USHL) completed today the 2009 Entry Draft with 189 players selected during the 20 rounds of the draft.

The Tri-City Storm held the first pick overall in which they selected forward Justin DeMartino who played this past season for the Detroit Little Caesars Midget Major AAA team.

The number of rounds was determined by as many rounds necessary to bring each club's player roster to 30. Teams first drafted to fill the active roster number of 23. Once all teams reached 23 players, the Entry Draft continued until all clubs have reached 30 players.

Unlike the 2009 Futures Draft which was limited to players born in 1993, the Entry Draft does not have a formal age restriction. The selection order of the Entry Draft was based on the reverse order of the total points accumulated in the final regular season standings. As an expansion club, Youngstown drafted before teams that qualified for the playoffs.
