Storm Makes "Big" Pick with Number-One Selection

KEARNEY - Gearing up for its 10th anniversary season, the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey league participated in today's USHL Entry Draft. The Storm had the 1st overall selection and also the 11th overall pick in the first round of the draft.

It was a busy day for the Storm as they selected players and also made two trades. The Storm traded forward Derek Deblois to Cedar Rapids in exchange for defenseman Nate Jensen. The Storm also traded their 3rd round draft pick to the Waterloo BlackHawks for defenseman Michael Montrose.

The Storm drafted a lot of size in the draft, led by the number one overall pick, Justin Demartino. Demartino is a 6'5", 213 lb forward from Macomb, Michigan. The Storm also selected another 200-pounder in Mitch Hughes. Hughes is a 6'2", 210 lb forward from the LA Jr. Kings. The smallest player drafted was Chris Joyaux (Joy-O). Joyaux is a 5'11", 165 lb defenseman from Bloomingdale, Illinois. Joyaux has already committed to play college hockey at Ohio State University.

Overall, the Storm selected nine forwards, four defenseman and two goalies.
