Tulsa Drillers News Release
For five innings Saturday night, Tulsa Drillers pitcher Julio Urias showed that he has recovered from mid-season eye surgery. Urias opened the game against the Arkansas Travelers with five no-hit innings, but it was not enough for the lefthander or the Drillers to record a victory. The Travelers used a three-run sixth to send Urias and the Drillers to a 3-1 loss in North Little Rock.
In only his third appearance since returning from eye surgery, Urias produced five of his most impressive innings of the season. The lefthander held the Travelers without a hit as he opened with five scoreless frames.
The Drillers gave Urias a slim lead to work with after scoring a single run in the top of the third. With one out, Adam Law singled and stole second base. From there, he scored the game's first run on a two-out base hit by Kyle Farmer.
Urias worked around walks in the first and third innings to keep the Travs scoreless, but things unraveled in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, he issued two straight walks to end his night.
Ramon Benjamin came on and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases and set the stage for a fielder's choice ground out that gave the Travs their first run before they had their first hit. With two outs and the bases still full, consecutive run-scoring singles by Brian Hernandez and Wade Hinkle off Benjamin gave the Travelers a 3-1 lead.
Tulsa's only chance to get back in the game came in the eighth when one-out singles by Lars Anderson and Farmer put runners at first and second, but a double play grounder from Brian Burgamy ended the threat.
Arkansas closer Danny Reynolds set the Drillers down in order in the ninth to close out the victory for the Travelers.
Urias was charged with the tough-luck loss that dropped his Double-A record to 1-4. He did not allow a hit in 5.1 innings, but issued four walks and was charged with two runs. Urias recorded six strikeouts.
The two sixth-inning hits were the only hits in the game for the Travelers. Benjamin worked a 1-2-3 seventh, and before newcomer Caleb Dirks pitched around a one out hit batter to work a scoreless eighth in his Drillers' debut.
The loss dropped Tulsa four games behind the first-place Travelers in the second-half North Division standings.
The two teams will play the final game of their four-game series Sunday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Ross Stripling (2-3, 4.50 ERA) will start the finale for the Drillers. Starting time in North Little Rock is scheduled for 6:10PM.
