URFC Defender Imani Dorsey Undergoes Successful Surgery
March 29, 2024 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Utah Royals FC News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Utah Royals FC defender Imani Dorsey underwent a successful procedure Wednesday to repair a torn left Achilles tendon, the injury suffered late in the first half of last Friday's match against North Carolina Courage. An MRI later that evening revealed that the tendon had ruptured.
Dorsey had started both matches for the Royals in the 2024 season, playing the full 90 against Chicago Red Stars and 44 minutes against the Courage. The match against Chicago was the first competitive soccer Dorsey had played in since October of 2022 after stepping away from soccer in 2023 to focus on her mental health. The 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year joined Utah Royals FC via free agency in December, after playing in 72 career matches for Sky Blue FC, which later rebranded to Gotham FC.
"URFC DF Imani Dorsey underwent surgery yesterday to repair injuries to her achilles tendon in her lower left leg," said Head Athletic Trainer Meghan Chambers, noting that Dorsey is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 NWSL season. "Imani will work closely with URFC Medical Staff to rehabilitate the injury after her successful surgery."
Additional updates on Dorsey's status will be provided throughout the year, as appropriate.
Utah travels to Washington, D.C. this weekend for its first-ever road match against the Spirit on Sunday at Audi Field, with an 11:00 a.m. MT kickoff. The match will be televised LIVE in Utah on KMYU (2.2 over air, 643 Comcast HD) with David James & Brian Dunseth calling the action. Fans can also tune into the match via KSL Sports Zone Radio (97.5 FM / 1280 AM) with John Paul Chunga and Carla Haslam presenting.
The Royals' next home match is on Friday, April 12 against Orlando Pride, with kickoff at America First Field at 7:30 p.m. MT. Tickets are available at https://www.rsl.com/utahroyals/tickets/.
