SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Look for the RiverKings mascot and staff members of the RiverKings at a number of area events coming up in the near future.

This Wednesday, April 21st, RiverKings mascot Sheldon the Turtle will be helping out in the Jump Rope For Heart event during the noon hour at Chickasaw Elementary School in Olive Branch.

Jump Rope For Heart is organized by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about heart issues in children. About 40,000 schools nationwide are taking part in the activity to raise money to help discover new medicines and treatments for youngsters who have special hearts.

Chickasaw Elementary School is located at 6391 Chickasaw Drive in Olive Branch. The event will run from 12 Noon to 2 PM and Sheldon will be there from 12 Noon to 1 PM.

On Saturday, April 24th, Sheldon will join RiverKings staffers at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven in support of its "Girls' Day Out" Community Event, from 10 AM to 2 PM. The event will take place at the hospital, located at 7601 Southcrest Parkway in Southaven.

The free health fair for women will feature health screenings, blood pressure and cholesterol checks, blood glucose and body mass index checks, and other activities.

Other activities coming up with the RiverKings include the upcoming Highway Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May first. Staff members, fans and volunteers will be walking the stretch of U.S. Highway 51 between Church Road and Starlanding Road, collecting litter along the highway. The activity is part of the team's commitment to that stretch of highway as part of the Mississippi Adopt-A-Highway program.

Volunteers are sought to be a part of the event, with coffee and rolls available at 8 AM and a grill out lunch available afterward for those who take part and sign up ahead of time. To be a part of the effort, contact the RiverKings office at 662-342-1755 before 2 PM on Friday, April 30th.
