Inside the Numbers
10 - The league-leading number of goals that Odessa's Jeff Pierce has scored in 11 post-season games. The Troy, Michigan native has 18 points (third in the CHL) and is a +6 in the playoffs. He has scored two game winning goals. In the regular season, Pierce finished with 31 goals and 31 assists. He is tied with teammate Mike Ramsay with 59 shots on goal in the playoffs.
2.36 - The league-leading goals against average of Bossier-Shreveport's Parker Van Buskirk. Forced into action with injuries to John DeCaro and Ken Carroll, Van Buskirk is 2-2 with a .924 save percentage.
20.08 - The average penalty minutes per game of the Allen Americans leading all playoff teams. They lead the CHL with seven major penalties and are sitting at 81% on the penalty kill allowing 12 power play goals in 62 chances. The Americans have scored two shorthanded goals this post-season leading all teams.
A Look Back
April 19, 2006 - On this date in 2006, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs won their first of four straight games in eliminating the Colorado Eagles in the Northern Conference Finals. Dan Wildfong, current Texas Brahmas head coach, scored the game winning goal late in the third period of play. David Cacciola made 45 saves in earning the win. The Mudbugs eventually lost in the Finals to the Laredo Bucks. BOX SCORE
Series Notes
Playoff Scoring Race - This year's scoring race has been a good one with Odessa's Sebastien Thinel and Allen's Justin Bowers each sitting with 20 points. Thinel (7-13=20) erupted in the Jacks game five win with a goal and three helpers. Bowers (8-12=20) has been on fire in the conference finals series totaling five goals and six assists in his last four games. The most points scored in a single post-season is 32 notched by Colorado's Greg Pankewicz (2006-07).
Strong Finishers - The Rapid City Rush have two chances to earn a trip to the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals as they lead the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs three games to two in their Northern Conference Finals series. The Rush have finished games well outscoring the opposition 17-9 in the third period and are 3-0 in overtimes in the playoffs. In the first two periods combined, the Rush are a -3 being outgunned 17-14. Rapid City scored three times in the final frame of Saturday's 4-1 win in game five at Bossier-Shreveport.
Early Leads a Good Indicator - Carrying a lead in the early going is always a confidence boost and in this year's post-season, it is no different. Both Allen and Bossier-Shreveport are undefeated at 4-0 when leading after 20 minutes while Odessa has won four times in the six games they held the lead in the first intermission. The interesting stat is that the Rapid City Rush has not held a lead after the first period in any of their nine post-season games.
