Jackson Generals News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Jackson (15-20) lost a heartbreaker in 13 innings to the Huntsville Stars (23-12) 2-1 on Friday in the finale of the five-game series. Jason Rogers scored Nick Ramirez with an RBI single in the bottom of the 13th to end the game. Tyler Olson (0-1, 5.73) fanned 10 in his second Generals start, but took a no-decision in the extra inning battle. Huntsville took four of five from the Generals.
The Generals got on the scoreboard first for the first time since Saturday against Pensacola. With one out and runners on first and second, Jack Marder (2-4, RBI) singled to bring home Kevin Rivers (0-4, BB, R) and it was 1-0 Jackson.
Huntsville got that run back two innings later when Kentrail Davis hit his first home run of the season to make the score 1-1 after the fifth inning.
The game remained in a pitcher's duel until the thirteenth inning. With two outs Nick Ramirez hit his eighth double of the season. On the next pitch Jason Rogers singled to left to bring in Ramirez's game winning run.
Huntsville had a chance to end the game in the eleventh inning with the bases loaded and one out. But the Generals turned their second double play of the game and their ninth double play in the past three games to end the inning.
Olson pitched superbly for Jackson. He went seven innings, giving up two hits and just one run. Olson also struck out a career high 10 batters, tying Taijuan Walker's season high achieved on April 9th.
Olson struck out five of the first six batters he faced and had eight K's through the first four innings. However, he takes a no-decision as he came out with the game tied at 1-1.
Marder picked up his sixth multi-hit game of the season and Jamal Austin (0-5, 3 K) was the only General to not reach base.
Jackson will travel home to begin a 10-game homestand on Saturday. The Generals will play the Tennessee Smokies for the second time this year in a five-game set. Left hander Kyle Hunter (0-1, 2.93) will go for the Generals and Ivan Pineyro (0-2, 2.32) will oppose him for the Smokies. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
