
Mississippi Tops Mobile 2-0 for Fourth Straight

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears fell 2-0 to the Mississippi Braves Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The M-Braves broke up a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the ninth inning, handing Mobile their fourth straight loss. Despite the BayBears dropping four in-in-row for the first time since July 2013, Mobile remains tied with the Montgomery Biscuits for first place in the Southern League South Division Standings at 19-15.
RHP Jake Barrett took the mound for Mobile in the top of the ninth with no score. Barrett surrendered a lead-off double to Seth Loman. After Daniel Carroll advanced Loman to third with a sacrifice bunt, the BayBears elected to intentionally walk Kyle Kubitza. With runners at the corners and just one out, Barrett Kleinknecht drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single to left. Mississippi pushed across the second run one batter later when Braden Schlehuber connected on a RBI base hit. Barrett was credited with the loss, putting him at (0-1) on the year.
Braves RHP Williams Perez held the BayBears scoreless over 7.2 innings. Mobile managed to scatter seven hits against Perez but failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities. The best scoring chance for Mobile came in the third inning when the BayBears reached on three straight hits with two outs but David Peralta left the bases loaded on a fly out to left. The BayBears finished just 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position, leaving a total of seven men on base.
BayBears RHP Mike Lee pitched seven full shutout innings, limiting the M-Braves to just three hits while walking two and striking out three. Lee also reached base twice with two hits in two trips to the plate. Lee and Sean Jamieson tallied four of the BayBears seven hits.
Mobile and Mississippi are scheduled to wrap up the five game series with the finale starting at 7:05 PM Friday night. RHP Bradin Hagens (0-2, 3,09) will take the mound for Mobile opposite M-Braves RHP J.R. Graham (0-1, 1.86). After the conclusion of Friday's contest with the Mississippi fans are invited to enjoy a postgame fireworks show.
