Real Maryland Monarchs News Release

TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced the 2010 season schedule for the USL Second Division. The 60-game regular season schedule opens with the previously announced three opening night games on April 17 and will close on August 14 with another three-game set.

The schedule for the USL Second Division, the only sanctioned US Soccer Federation Division III Men's Professional League, will feature all six teams playing the other clubs in the league twice home and twice away for 2010. The top three teams advance to the postseason with the regular season champion playing host to the league championship. The second and third seeds will meet the weekend of August 21 to determine the other finalist for the championship game the following weekend.

After opening the season at home on the league's opening night, the defending champion Richmond Kickers will face the rival Charlotte Eagles in the first of four meetings on the year that will be a rematch of the 2009 USL-2 Championship game. The first showdown will occur in Richmond, where the Kickers claimed the title with a 3-1 victory, on Saturday, April 24. Nearly a month later the two will square off in Richmond again on May 21. Charlotte will host the final two meetings June 26 and July 10.

Returning to the USL Second Division after a lengthy tenure in the USL First Division, the Charleston Battery will face several familiar foes who also were previous members of USL-1. After opening the season at Charlotte April 17, the Battery will host Pittsburgh in Charleston's home opener April 24. They will square off against the Kickers for the first time in league play since 2005 on the road June 5.

The final night of the regular season on August 14 will feature the Battery playing host to Charlotte, the Real Maryland Monarchs traveling to Richmond and the Pennsylvania showdown between Pittsburgh and the City Islanders in Harrisburg.
