Real Maryland Monarchs News Release
Silver Spring, Maryland - On the heels of a full capacity tryout over the past weekend for the Monarch's new Premier Development League Team, Real Maryland FC is pleased to announce the hiring of Silvino Gonzalo as the new Head Coach of the PDL Team.
Coach Gonzalo brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Monarch's leadership position. He has coached many teams to National Prominence over the past 25 years. Coach Gonzalo was instrumental in getting Real Maryland FC off the ground in 2008 as the first Head Coach of the Club's top team that participated in the USL's Second Division.
In order to further improve the Club's development, Coach Gonzalo stepped into the role as Director of Player Development for RMFC's Super Y League Academy System over the past two seasons.
"I believe that the knowledge Coach Gonzalo has implemented into the youth system over the past couple of years has helped the Club tremendously," says General Manager David Noyes. "This is another step for the Monarchs. Real Maryland feels Coach Gonzalo will continue to build upon what has been created in a short amount of time."
He brought his first team, Club Espana, to an Amateur National Championship victory in 1985 where he was the Head Coach there from 1985-1987. In addition to the Amateur National Championship in 1985, he also led Club Espana to raise the coveted Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship Trophy in 1987.
Coach Gonzalo continued his success with his move to the Washington Diplomats of the American Pro Soccer League where they captured the Championship Trophy in 1988.
From 1991-1997, he stepped into the Head Coaching role in the Iberia Soccer Club. Again, Coach Gonzalo captured the Amateur National Championship in 1997. In the same year, as a Coach of the Metro DC/Virginia Soccer Association he was named a finalist for Region I Coach of the Year.
Coach Gonzalo's United Soccer League experience began with the Northern Virginia Royals as they began their franchise in the Pro-Select League. He spent 1998-2007 with the NOVA Royals where he helped them become one of the staple soccer clubs of the USL.
The next Real Maryland FC PDL Team Tryout will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 6:30-9:00 pm. This tryout will be reserved for players that are 21 years of age or younger.
