Real Maryland Monarchs News Release

Silver Spring, MD - Real Maryland FC is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Kennedy Torres for the U13 Girls 2011 Super Y League Team.

Kennedy Torres is currently a resident of the State of Maryland, but has brought his childhood soccer experience of growing up in Brazil to the area and to his teams.

Coach Torres currently coaches a team in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League where they were the 2010 Divisional Champs. The team, under Coach Torres' guidance, grew from a recreational team to a WAGS Divisional Champion in just over three years.

Kennedy Torres' background includes licenses and certifications from the USSF, NSCAA and the International Youth Conditioning Association.

While Coach Torres has proven to be a solid coach, he was a tremendous youth player where he was invited to join the Sao Paulo Futbol Club's Youth Team in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Eventually, his playing ability landed him a full scholarship to the Division I Men's Soccer Program at Temple University.

"I strive to impress upon all the players my love for the game of soccer, my passion for competition, my unwavering strong team spirit and sportsmanship," says Coach Torres.

Coach Torres's U13 SYL Team joins two other Real Maryland FC Girl's Super Y League teams who are coached by Brett Menge and Rich Landis.

Coach Brett Menge's team in 2010, in their first season, qualified for the Super Y League National Finals and had three girls selected to the ODP National Training Pool.

Coach Richard Landis's team in 2010, also in their first season, narrowly missed the Super Y League National Finals on point differential and had one girl selected to the ODP National Training Pool

"We are happy to have Coach Torres on the Girls Super Y League Staff," says General Manager David Noyes. "We believe he will continue what we have started on the girl's side of our SYL Programs. There has been a high standard set and we believe Coach Torres will continue that standard and help raise it."

The first round of tryouts for the 2011 Super Y League Season begins on Sunday, December 19th. The Monarchs will offer tryouts for teams in both the boys and girls divisions from ages U13-U17. The tryouts will take place at Richard Montgomery High School Stadium Field from 10:00 am - 6:30 pm.

Real Maryland FC is a proud member of the United Soccer Leagues and has recently sent a number of teams to the USL's Super Y League National Finals. This past 2010 Season, three teams qualified for the SYL National Finals - U13 Girls, U13 Boys and the U17 Boys and had nine player selected to the SYL ODP National Training Pool.
