MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Tuesday, September 30th, 2014) -- Minnesota United forward Rafael Burgos has been called up for international duty by his home country El Salvador to play a pair of upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Ecuador. The matches will be played in Harrison, New Jersey on October 10th and 14th respectively.
"He's coming off a really good camp where he had some goals at the Copa Centroamericana," said Minnesota Head Coach Manny Lagos. "This is a big honor for him with a chance to play one of the world powers: Columbia. They have some of the best players in the world right now. I think this is very exciting for him individually, and we're certainly going to miss him here but we're excited to see him compete."
The last time Burgos was called up to La Selecta, it was during the 2014 Copa Centroamericana. The striker scored two goals to lead his team to a fourth place finish, which qualifies El Salvador for the 2015 Gold Cup where they will face other top North American teams such as the United States and Mexico.
Burgos has been getting more time with Minnesota since joining the club at the end of July of this year on loan from SV Ried of Austria. He has made four appearances for United, adding to the already impressive United attack. Burgos will be a key part of the team as Minnesota makes its push for The Championship.
Burgos will be available for United's home match this Saturday, October 4th at National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, MN. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 763.4SOCCER or visting MNUnitedFC.com/tickets. Fans can tune into the game via NASLLive.com or ESPN3.
