Minnesota United FC News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota United (Fall - 3W-0D-1L, 9pts | Combined - 8W-1D-5L 25pts) head back on the road on Saturday to face the current Fall Season leaders, Rayo OKC (Fall - 3W-2D-1L, 11pts | Combined - 6W-5D-5L, 23pts). Kickoff at Miller Stadium is set for 8 p.m. CT - fans can watch all the action live on MY29 and ESPN3.
United enters Saturday's match ahead of a span of 33 days in which the club will play eight matches. It's an opportunity for the Loons to turn the table on its head. Up first for United is Rayo OKC, sitting on top of the Fall Season standings with eleven points in six matches. Rayo started the new season inside an impressive six-match unbeaten streak before falling at the feet of expansion side Puerto Rico FC.
"Rayo is a really good side, with well-organized quality footballers, we're going to expect a heck of a battle," said United Head Coach Carl Craig. "A little bit like Indy in that whilst their not winning all their games, they have the quality and ability to upset us so we've got to be right on top of our game and expect whatever it is and be prepared for whatever it is they throw at us in order to get the result, but I think that we've got enough to get the result."
Minnesota United dropped three points in a 1-0 defeat to Rayo OKC in the spring. It was the club's final away match of the season on a warm early-summer night. Since then there have been changes in the attacking philosophy of the Loons that have resulted in more goals and better results early in the Fall Season.
"We lost 1-0, dominated the game, didn't take our chances and then we gave them an opportunity to get back into it," said Craig. "We started tremendously well, just didn't put the ball in the back of the net and doubt can creep in, I've seen it before many times-as anyone has who's been in the game as long as I have-when you work and work and don't necessarily crack it and then give them a goal."
