July 10, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rochester Rhinos News Release
Rochester, NY - The Rochester Rhinos finish their three match in nine day stretch on Saturday, July 11 against the host Toronto FC II (TFC II) in a United Soccer League (USL) contest at their new facility, the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughn, Ontario, 12 miles northwest of downtown Toronto. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
The first place Rhinos are the only overall unbeaten professional soccer team in the USA, with a current club record 16 match league unbeaten streak to start the season (10-0-6, 36 points) and a 2-0-1 record in the US Open Cup. TFC II is in 10th in the USL Eastern Conference with a 3-6-3 mark for 12 points, but have played the fewest matches of any team in the league (12), and only three of those at home, also the least in the USL.
The Rhinos' defense has allowed just six goals in 15 league matches and are on pace to break the 1998 Rhinos' team record for fewest goals given up in a season at 15. The back line is led by fourth year keeper Brandon Miller, who leads the USL with a 0.29 goals against average and seven shutouts in ten full matches played. Offensively, the Rhinos are paced by Christian Volesky with six goals and one assist, Steevan Dos Santos with four goals and Alex Dixon with three goals. TFC II's leading scorer is Molham Babouli with two goals and two assists, but he is one of six players who are away on international duty with the Canadian Pan-American Games men's soccer team. The top TFC II marksman who could play Saturday is Jordan Hamilton with two goals.
This is third of four matches between the Rhinos and TFC II. On May 9th, Rochester won at Sahlen's Stadium 1-0 on a 90th minute goal from Dos Santos. Then, on May 23rd the teams played to a 0-0 tie at BMO Field in Toronto. The Rhinos and TFC II will play for the final time in the regular season on September 12th in Rochester.
In their last USL match on July 8 at home, Rochester held on for a 2-1 win against FC Montreal, with Colin Rolfe (15') and Volesky (32') scoring. The Rhinos played the final 26 minutes with 10 men after Tyler Rudy was given a second yellow card, after which Frédéric Lajoie-Gravelle scored for Montreal in the 85th minute. TFC II also played on July 8 in their first match at the Ontario Soccer Centre and dropped a 2-0 decision to Pittsburgh.
The next Rhinos match is Saturday, July 18 at Sahlen's Stadium against the Charlotte Independence with kickoff at 7:05 pm. July 18 is Kids Day and as we celebrate Rex the Rhino's birthday with area mascots. All tickets for children age 14 and under for this match are $5.00 each and can be purchased by calling (585) 454-KICK (5425), online via Ticketmaster, by visiting the MVP Health Care Box Office at Sahlen's Stadium during business hours or by visiting rhinossoccer.com .
