August 24, 2005 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release

One night after being beaten by the bat of a former pitcher turned outfielder, the Tulsa Drillers got offensive production from one of their on pitchers Wednesday night in a 5-2 victory over the Springfield Cardinals.

Enmanuel Ulloa starred on the mound and at the plate on Wednesday. The pitcher belted a long 2-run homer in the fourth inning that gave the Drillers a 5-0 lead. He then protected that lead with seven shutout innings of work on the mound, allowing only three singles and one walk while striking out nine.

Ulloa's homer capped a 4-run fourth for the Drillers. It was his first professional home run and came one night after watching former big league pitcher Rick Ankiel go 2-4 with a double and a homer in a Springfield victory.

Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Cards' starter Randy Leek who was in search of his Texas League leading 14th win. Clint Barmes led off the game with a single to center, but he was forced out on a grounder by Tony Miller. Sean Barker followed with a double to center that brought Miller home with the first run of the game.

The game remained 1-0 until the Drillers big fourth inning in which all four runs scored with two outs. After Joe Koshansky grounded out to begin the inning, Jayson Nix doubled. Corey Slavik then flied out to center field, but Tino Sanchez followed with a double to center to score Nix. Jordan Czarniecki made it three doubles in the inning with a drive to left that scored Sanchez to make it 3-0. Ulloa then followed with his homer to up the lead to 5-0.

Springfield scored its two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a 2-run single by Travis Hanson. The Cards missed a chance to do further damage when Gabe Johnson struck out with the bases loaded.

Jim Miller worked a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win and get his 6th Drillers' save of the year. The victory was only the fourth for Tulsa in 12 games in Springfield this season.

Barmes, playing in his second game with the Drillers while on an injury rehabilitation assignment from the Colorado Rockies, went 2-4 with a pair of singles. Koshansky, who hit 36 homers at Class A Asheville this season, was 0-4 in his debut with the Drillers.

Tulsa and Springfield will resume their series Thursday night at Hammons Field. Zack Parker (10-9, 4.05 ERA) will pitch for the Drillers.
