MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (25-13) increased their Arizona Division lead to a season high 4.5 games by beating the Yuma scorpions (20-17) 7-2 at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona. The Miners also improved their record to a season high 12 games over .500.
Mesa starter Jon Uhl improved his record to 4-1 by pitching a complete game two-hitter. The only hits by Yuma were a 2-run home run by Juan Lebron in the first inning and a single by Matt Brunson by in the ninth. Uhl walked two batters and struckout eleven in the Miners second complete game of the season. Uhl also retired seventeen straight batters.
Arizona player of the week Paul Powell continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Matt Connoly went 3-for-3 with a 2-run home run. The loss for Yuma went to starter Rusty Meacham (2-3) who gave up four runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.
The Miners will continue their four game series against the Scorpions tomorrow at 6:35 pm at HoHoKam Park. The scheduled starters are Tim Kalita (2-2) for Mesa and Jorge Perez (5-20 for Yuma.
