Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, CA ---- Flyers ace Ben Fox was named the Golden Baseball League pitcher of the month for June, while third-baseman Sean Walsh was recognized as the GBL California Division Player of the Week for June 27th - July 3rd.

Fox, 24, dominated GBL hitters throughout the month, notching a 5-1 record with a 2.87 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 37 innings. The former Padres minor-leaguer is currently tied for the league lead in wins with six, and started off the month of July with the first complete game in Flyers history Monday afternoon in an 8-1 victory over the Long Beach Armada.

"Ben is the type of guy that everyone loves to have on their team, " said Fullerton General Manager Ed Hart. "Ben is a leader in the clubhouse and a good, solid person. He always seems to be one step ahead of the hitters when he's on the mound.

"We expect that the affiliated teams will get a good look at him here in Fullerton, and that he'll move up soon."

Walsh, 25, batted .500 (12-for-24) with nine RBI and six runs scored for the week. Walsh feasted on the Long Beach and Chico pitching staffs, bumping up his season totals to six homeruns, 30 RBI and a batting average of .402.

Hart loves his big hitting third-baseman.

"Sean's work ethic and discipline is second to none. He is the quiet leader that goes out day in and day out and shows everyone the way baseball is meant to be played.

"He is always the guy that you want at the plate with the game on the line, and it's just a matter of time before he is leading an affiliated team and working his way up to the big leagues."

The Flyers are currently in the midst of a four game series against the Long Beach Armada at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal-State Fullerton. Fullerton took game one of the series Monday afternoon 8-1, and will face-off Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with Long Beach. All games are slated for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
