Wausau Woodchucks News Release
(Wausau) - This week, the Woodchucks are excited to announce two new roster additions for the 2012 season. The two pitchers, Austin Pettibone and Cameron Cuneo, will bring a pair of strong arms to the Woodchucks pitching staff this summer.
Austin, a freshman righty, was a four-year letter winner in high school. In his junior year he made 1st Team All-Sunset League with a record of 8-1 and a 2.65 ERA. His senior year, Austin was 1st Team All-Century League, while lowering his ERA to 2.41. Baseball also runs in Austin's family. His dad, Jay, played in 1983 for the Minnesota Twins and his brother Jon was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2008 Amateur Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and is currently playing at the High A level.
Cameron, a lefty, is entering his sophomore season at Santa Barbara after a solid freshman campaign. Mostly working out of the bullpen in 2011, Cameron went 1-1 with a 3.95 ERA while striking out 22 and holding opponents to a .220 batting average. He started his career at Santa Barbara by allowing no runs in his first seven appearances. After his freshman season, Cameron went on to play in the West Coast Collegiate League for the Bend Elks in the summer of 2011. For the Elks, Cameron was 2-2 with an impressive 1.30 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched. He appeared in 15 games and only allowed 21 hits. He was used primarily as a long reliever, a role that he thrived in.
