MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The U.S. National Under-18 Team tied the Robert Morris University Colonials of the College Hockey America conference, 2-2 this afternoon at the RMU Island Sports Center.

Robert Morris scored twice in the opening frame, including a power-play tally at 7:31 of the first period to give the Colonials the 2-0 advantage after the opening 20 minutes.

Team USA came alive offensively in the third period led by linemates James vanRiemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) and Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn.). vanRiemsdyk cut the Robert Morris lead to one with his 17th goal of the season 1:43 into the final period off a feed from Wilson. Just 4:49 later in the period vanRiemsdyk returned the favor and set up Wilson's ninth tally of the season with 13:30 remaining in the game to knot the game at two. Team USA outshot the Colonials 19-10 in the final period but were unable to take the lead despite chances late in the game.

Both teams mounted three shots in the extra frame but both netminders were up to the task to keep the game knotted at a 2-2. Phillips was strong in net from Team USA today, stopping 30-of-32 Colonials attempts.

"We are encouraged by our effort in the third period today," said U.S. Head Coach Ron Rolston (Fenton, Mich.). "It takes a full 60 minutes to be able to win games at this level and we will need to continue to work everyday to get to that point."

The U.S. National Under-18 Team will host Canisius College of the Atlantic Hockey conference this Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday versus the Golden Griffins.

NOTES: Phillips earned his second tie of the season this afternoon in goal for Team USA ... The U.S. National Under-18 Team is 1-1-1 in the all-time series versus RMU.
