U.S. National Under-17 Team Falls To Top-Ranked St. Louis

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. -- The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell 3-1 tonight to the St. Louis Bandits in North American Hockey League action at the Summit Ice Arena.

Team USA jumped out to the lead 8:26 into the first period when Colin Reddin (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) beat Bandits netminder Mike Jarboe off a feed from Colin Moore (Medfield, Mass.). St. Louis responded 5:26 later in the first period when Ben Warda was able to slip a shot past U.S. goaltender Nick Maricic (Alta Loma, Calif.) to knot the game at one. With 1:21 remaining in the opening frame the Bandits added another goal to take the 2-1 advantage after one.

St. Louis scored the lone goal of the second period with 25 seconds remaining in the period when Shawn Skelly tallied a goal on the first Bandits power play of the night.

Team USA outshot the Bandits 14-10 in the final frame, but were unable to beat St. Louis netminder Mike Jarboe.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will host NAHL North Division's first-place Alpena IceDiggers this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24-25, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Game time is set for 7 p.m. both nights. On Sunday, Nov. 26, Team USA will host the Traverse City North Stars at 3 p.m., also at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

NOTES: St. Louis (19-2-1) owns the best record in the NAHL ... As part of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program 2006 Toys for Tots drive fans receive two-for-one tickets with the donation of a new toy to the weekend games versus Alpena and Traverse City.
