
U.S. National Under-18 Team Faces Top-Ranked Badgers

THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-18 Team travels to Wisconsin this weekend to take on the top-ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers in Madison on Friday night (Dec. 16) at 8:07 EST, then travel to Milwaukee on Saturday (Dec. 17) to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 8:05 EST.
U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES: John Hynes is in his third season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Hynes has spent time as an assistant coach at the University of Massachuttes Lowell and the University of Wisconsin. Hynes has amassed a career record with the NTDP of 80-42-7.
U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES ON RETURNING TO WISCONSIN: "We are excited for the opportunity to play the top team in the country on Friday. The experience our players recieve in playing teams of this caliber is immeasurable. For us to play in a building like the Kohl Center in front of the Wisconsin crowd will be outstanding preparation for our marquee event, the (IIHF) World Under-18 Championship. Personally, I look forward to returning to the University of Wisconsin to see some people that have helped shape my coaching career, most noteably Coach (Mike) Eaves."

TIDBITS: Defenseman Trent Palm (Edina, Minn.) has verbally committed to play collegiately at the University of Minnesota Duluth of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2006-07 school year. Palm attended prep school at Shattuck St. Mary's in Faribault, Minn. ... Wisconsin Head Coach Mike Eaves served as a head coach at the NTDP from 2000-02, including leading the U.S. National Under-18 Team to a gold medal at the 2002 International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-18 Championship in Piestany, Slovakia ... Hynes served as an assistant coach under Eaves on the gold-medal-winning 2002 team as well as with the U.S. National Junior Team that earned gold at the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship.
âTIS THE SEASON: USA Hockey's NTDP and the United States Marine Corps are hosting a Toys For Tots Drive at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Collection began on Dec. 6, when the U.S. National Under-17 Team hosted the Cleveland Barons. The drive will end on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, Mich., when NTDP alumni and current Detroit Red Wings Jimmy Howard (Ogdensburg, N.Y.), Brett Lebda (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and U.S. National Team alumnus and fellow Red Wing, Mark Mowers (Decatur, Ga.) join current NTDP players to sign autographs in exchange for the donation of a new toy.
LAST WEEKEND: The U.S. National Under-18 Team traveled out east to take on NCAA Division III Williams College on Dec. 9 and the fourth-ranked Division I University of Vermont Catamounts on Dec. 10.

UP NEXT: The U.S. National Under-18 Team is off until after the new year. Upon returning from break, the team travels to play the University of Wisconsin Superior (Jan. 6) and the University of Minnesota Duluth (Jan. 7).
ABOUT THE NTDP: Founded in 1997, USA Hockey's National Team Development Program was created to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. The program has been instrumental in capturing gold medals at the 2002 and 2005 IIHF World Under-18 Championships and the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship. This past summer 15 NTDP alumni were selected in the NHL Entry Draft. In the seven years NTDP players have been eligible for the NHL draft, 107 players have been selected.
