Texas Tornado News Release

Behind #17 Jordan Mowbray's three shorthanded goals and #33 Troy Redmann's stellar goaltending, the Texas Tornado swept the Wichita Falls Wildcats this past weekend to maintain their lead a top of the NAHL South Division. Saturday night in Wichita Falls may have been the best 40 minutes of hockey that the Tornado have played on the road all season long. The Tornado simply dominated the final two periods of play to win 5-1 over the Wildcats. The Wildcats lead early 1-0 from a goal from Chris Ochoa, but then came the 2nd period... Tornado forward #19 Andrew Harrison kicked it off with a goal as he skated down the right side and slid one in underneath Wildcats goaltender Cory Netrefa. #18 Tom Train gave the Tornado a 2-1 lead on a power play goal, in which he one-timed a rocket that snuck past Netrefa. The Tornado poured on the pressure in the 2nd period and ended up outshooting the Wildcats 20-3. The 3rd period saw the continued Tornado pressure. Tornado forward #16 Adam Flink banged home a rebound shot from #2 Mike Olmstead to give the Tornado a crucial 3-1 lead. It was Flink's 1st career junior hockey goal. The rising emergence of Tornado forward #17 Jordan Mowbray then cam into play. After scoring a shorthanded goal the night before, "Big Show Mo" gave the Tornado a 4-1 lead when he raced in on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Netrefa clean on a nice deke. Mowbray added another shorthanded goal towards the end of period, as his hard work down low paid off as he sent the puck in on net for his second shorthanded goal of the night. The rest of the night belonged to Tornado goaltender #33 Troy Redmann. Redmann turned in another MVP style performance stopping 27 of 28 Wildcats shots. Countless times, Redmann's saves kept the Tornado in the game, and once the Tornado captured the lead, Redmann was unbeatable. Friday night in Frisco in front of the largest crowd of the year, the Texas Tornado used a three-goal 2nd period to defeat the Wichita Falls Wildcats, 4-2. The Wildcats got on the board first with a goal from Chris Ochoa who beat Tornado goaltender #33 Troy Redmann high on the glove side. Tornado forward #28 Karl Sellan answered right back on the power play, as he took a pass from #3 Lyon Messier and beat Wildcats netminder Tom Billick low left side. The Tornado broke the game open in the 2nd period with three goals in less than five minutes. #26 Derek Danowski made it 2-1 as he walked in down the left side and put the puck past Billick's glove. #18 Tom Train and #12 Colin Long assisted on the play. Tornado forward #13 Sean McCauley was the beneficiary of some great forechecking on the 3rd Tornado goal, as he collected a rebound and scored with hard work from linemates #16 Adam Flink and #24 Billy Skwarczewski. The Tornado struck again, this time shorthanded as #17 Jordan Mowbray walked in 1 on 1 and slipped the puck past Billick. A late 3rd period goal on a nice individual effort by the Wildcat's Adam Cardwell made it 4-2, but Redmann held the fort for a 4-2 win.

Tornado Players Make Annual Trip with Teddy Bears to Children's Medical Center

The Texas Tornado Hockey team and Children's Medical Center have teamed up to bring smiles to children who are battling cancer. Back on Friday, November 25th in a 4-1 home game win against the Texarkana Bandits, the Texas Tornado hosted their annual "Teddy Bear Toss Night." The thousands of fans on hand were asked to bring a stuffed animal or teddy beat toss onto the ice after the first Tornado goal, which ended up being by leading goal-scorer #28 Karl Sellan. The stuffed animals and teddy bears were then collected and stored until today, when they will be delivered to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Texas Tornado Head Coach and General Manager Tony Curtale, Tornado Community Relations Director Jenny Orndorff, and Tornado players Karl Sellan, Jordan Mowbray, Andrew Harrison, Tom Brooks, and Dylan Cooper will visit children in their hospital beds and oncology unit play centers. "It is a humbling experience for me and the players, but at the same time we realize that we are bring happiness to kids who are going through a tough time right now," said Curtale. "This type of experience is good for our players because it exposes them to something other than hockey and puts them in a situation where they have to deal with a different life experience."

Join Coach Curtale this Holiday Season for Dallas Developmental Hockey Introducing Dallas Developmental Hockey... coaching camps and instruction designed to provide the Dallas area the best resources for developing your skills as a hockey player. Run by Texas Tornado Head Coach and General Manager Tony Curtale, along with former Tornado Assistant Coach and current DJHA Midget Major Head Coach Mark Frankenfeld, Dallas Developmental Hockey has career coaches that teach your athlete. They don't believe in the philosophy of satellite camps, and don't believe that camps are effective with part-time coaches or players teaching. In order for the athlete to get the full benefit,a qualified career coach must provide the instruction. Athletes will be shown the proper instruction and given the proper feedback in order to develop their skills properly. Athletes will be shown the proper mechanics and be given proper repetition to maximize their skills and succeed at the highest levels. Most important, these coaches have the experience to teach the athlete how their skills actually relate to the game of hockey. You will not find another camp that parallels the experience of the staff and their passion for coaching and developing hockey players. There will be two sessions: One from December 21-23, and another from December 26-28. For more information, log onto www.dallasdevelopmentalhockey.com
