U.S. National Under-17 Team Falls to Rangers, 4-1

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Three power-play goals led the Marquette Rangers past the U.S. National Under-17 Team tonight in a 4-1 loss at the Lakeview Arena.

The Rangers scored its first power-play goal of the night 3:35 into the game. The U.S. responded 1:31 later on Kelen Corkum's (Newbury, Mass.) second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Marquette added its second power-play goal 7:51 into the game to gain the 2-1 lead.

A penalty-filled second period was evenly matched, with both goaltenders turning away all of the shots they faced. Marquette added two goals in the final period, one 9:59 in and one with 3:34 remaining to seal the victory.

U.S. netminder Nick Maricic (Alta Loma, Calif.) stopped 36-of-40 shots on the night and 84-of-89 shots in the weekend split with the Rangers.

NOTES: Corkum earned third star of the game honors ... U.S. Head Coach John Hynes (Warwick, R.I.) was unable to make the trip to Marquette, Assistant Coach Patrick Foley (Milton, Mass.) ran the bench tonight for Team USA.
