U-17s take one from Toledo, 5-2

ANN ARBOR, MICH. –The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Toledo Ice Diggers, 5-2, Tuesday night (March 8). James O'Brien (Maplewood, Minn.) had the only score in period one with the helpers going to Kevin Montgomery (Rochester, N.Y.) and Rhett Rakhshani. The U.S. led 1-0 at the start of the second.

In period two, Toledo answered to tie the game at one-a-piece before the U17s went on a tear scoring four goals (2PPG). Goal scorers included Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) (PPG), James O'Brien, Danny Fardig (Ann Arbor, Mich.), and Rhett Rakhshani (PPG).

In the third period, Toledo put in their second goal, but the U.S. held them off for the win, 5-2. Leading all scorers on the evening were Rhett Rakhshani with three points (1PPG, 2A), James O'Brien with two points (1G, 1PPG), and Trent Palm (Edina, Minn.) with two points (2A).

U.S. goaltender Billy Blase (Santa Monica, Calif.) stopped 20 of 22 shots.
