Sims garners weekly honor again

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Tuesday, March 8, 2005) – Former Phantom and current Providence College men's hockey goalie Tyler Sims was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, March 7. It marked the second time this season that Sims has earned rookie of the week honors. He also earned the accolade on November 8.

Sims, a 2004 graduate and co-valedictorian of Boardman High School, helped the Friars to a 3-2 overtime win at No. 13 UMass-Lowell on March 5. He stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced as Providence (11-18-4) went on to earn its third consecutive victory and clinch the seventh seed in the upcoming Hockey East Tournament.

The Friars freshman has a record of 6-6-2 with a 3.02 goals against average and a .905 save percentage. The Friars will begin their best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series on Friday, March 11 at #9 Boston University. The winner of the Hockey East tournament receives one of six automatic bids to the 16-team NCAA hockey tournament, which begins Friday, March 25.
