Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) The Fargo-Moorhead Jets Junior A hockey team is partnering with local businesses in a fundraising event to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Jets will be sporting special green St. Patrick's Day jerseys when they face the Bismarck Bobcats at 7pm Friday March 11 at the Carlson Coliseum. Following the game, fans will be invited to place bids on the jerseys during a live auction. Winners will get their jersey that night, directly off the players back.
All proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Since the jerseys are fully sponsored, the money raised in the auction goes right to the MDA.
State Bank & Trust, Great Plains Financial and the Jets Booster Club are sponsoring the jerseys.
"We are very excited to be partnering with the Jets, and hope this event brings further awareness to our cause," said local MDA public relations agent Laura Hochsprung. "Not only will the auction help us, but the whole event will bring attention to the MDA."
The MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research and education. The jersey auction will coincide with the MDA's ongoing Shamrock program, which can be seen in various local businesses.
"Wearing these special jerseys and giving the auction money to a worthy cause is the type of event we planned on having when this team was started" said Jets' general manager Randy Nielsen. "Our goal is to not only provide family entertainment, but to also find ways to give back to a community which has shown an ever increasing interest in our team."
Many teams in not only the North American Hockey League, but also countless minor pro leagues, have held jersey auctions in the past decade. Half the teams tend to keep the money for themselves, while others donate the money raised.
"When the promotion was decided upon, we planned on giving the money away. Thanks to our generous sponsors, all of our costs are already covered," added Nielsen. "It means more to the community if we donate the money raised to a good cause, which the MDA most certainly is."
Along with the auction, fans at the game will be treated to a crucial West Division matchup. The Jets (33-14-2) will enter the game on a three-game win streak and holding on to first place in the division by one point. Meanwhile, the Bismarck Bobcats (22-20-9) are currently in a race for the final playoff spot in the division.
Underlying the game is that fueling the meeting is a renewal of one of the best developing rivalries in the entire league.
Tickets for the game are available by calling the Jets at 235-2354. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students/seniors/military.
