(Courtesy of CKLQ's Bruce Luebke) -- The Brandon Wheat Kings rookie camp is in full swing with 85 players taking part including 16-year old forward Tyrel Seaman.
A fourth round pick of Brandon in the 2009 Bantam Draft, Seaman has the look of a budding power forward at 6-foot-1 1/2, 193 pounds.
"Just got to go out there and give it your all," says Seaman, "There's a little bit more pressure to give it 110 out there and finish every hit."
The product of Choiceland, Saskatchewan spent last season with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League, scoring 12 goals and 29 points in 38 games.
"I got Rookie of the Year in Prince Albert there and felt I had a good year," says Seaman, who says he improved immensely over the course of the season, "Going and mucking it up in the corner, playing dump-and-chase hockey."
Seaman showed well in his first scrimmage at rookie camp Wednesday morning, scoring twice including the overtime winner to lead Team Black to a 7-6 win over Team Red.
Rookie scrimmages continue throughout the day on Thursday, with games scheduled for 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
Wheat Kings' Main Camp gets underway first thing Friday at Westman Place.
