Tyler Marlette Named Cal League Player of the Week

Bakersfield - Bakersfield Blaze catcher/designated hitter Tyler Marlette was named the Cal League Player of the Week today for the first time this season.

Marlette's work with the bat from July 4-10 th has helped propel the Blaze to the best record (14-4) in Cal League play during the second half of the season as they finished the week 6-1.

For the week Marlette hit .607 (17-28) with six doubles, a home run, eight runs scored, eight driven in, two walks, and a stolen base. On July 6 th against High Desert, Marlette was 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI as the Blaze beat the Mavericks 4-3. On July 9 th Marlette played another big part of one of the largest comebacks in the Cal League this year. Down 7-2 in the 9 th inning at Visalia, the Blaze had a 7-run outburst to tumble the Rawhide 9-7. Marlette in the affair was 3-5 with a double and a run knocked in.

In '16, Marlette has a .260 batting average, slugging percentage of .471, 15 doubles, nine home runs, 33 RBI, 18 walks, and 54 strike outs in 53 games played.

The Florida native is a fifth round selection of the Seattle Mariners in 2011 after being drafted out of Paul J. Hagerty High School.

Marlette is the first position player for Bakersfield to bring home the accolades. Andrew Moore (4/18-24), Anthony Misiewicz (4/25-5/1), and Osmer Morales (6/20-26) were all named Pitcher of the Week by the Cal League earlier this season.
