Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Dec. 10, 2008) - Wave Armada forward Tenzin Rampa leaps from the developmental squad to the full Wave roster for Saturday's season opener as Head Coach Keith Tozer filled in some spots opened by injury and delays.
Rampa and another Armada player, Marquette University product Nathan Sabich, each signed a 15-day contract, while forward Jacek Przednowek (JACK pshed-NOH-vek) and midfielder Chad Burt signed full contracts.
The signings were necessitated by injury and absence. Midfielder Marcio Leite (knee) is out for the season, while goalkeeper NickVorberg (calf) and defender Joe Hammes (ankle) are each on the 15-day injured list. In addition, Brazilian Jonathan Santos remains in his home country and it's unclear if he will arrive before Saturday's opener.
Rampa is in his second year with the Armada and scored 19 goals in his first five games for the team this season. He played at UW-Milwaukee and was a college draft choice of the Wave last spring.
"I'm very excited to have Tenzin join the Milwaukee Wave," Tozer said. "It proves that the reserve team is going to be a tool to keep feeding the first team for years to come."
Przednowek, 23, led NCAA Division I Robert Morris University in scoring three consecutive seasons, finishing with 38 goals and 11 assists in 57 games. He is a native of Lubaczow, Poland.
"Jacek had a great college career," Tozer said. "He's big, strong and fast. I think he could be a very good player in this league. He has all the potential."
Burt, 20, was second in scoring as a freshman for the University of Tampa, and has played with the U23 squads of the MLS's Colorado Rapids and USL-1's Atlanta Silverbacks.
"I first saw Chad at the Charleston combine," Tozer said. "I felt he had a lot of the tools - speed, work rate, technical ability - that would fit very well with our style of play and the league."
Sabich, 24, was a four-year starter on Marquette's back line and was on the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2003. He also played this year on the Wave Armada.
"Again, this shows the importance of the reserve team to both the Wave and the XSL," Tozer said. "It's great to have another player from a local college, at Marquette. He showed well on the reserve team and hopefully he'll show well on Saturday."
