Two Veterans back to Defend the Syracuse Goal

October 19, 2017 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

SYRACUSE, New York - The busy off-season for the Syracuse Silver Knights continues, with Central New York's professional soccer team solidifying its back line as it reunites with versatile defenders Jake Schindler and Darren Toby. The talented duo are the latest players added to the Knights roster for the 2017-18 season. "Both Jake and Darren are phenomenal defenders for our team," Silver Knights Coach Ryan Hall said. "They both read the game incredibly well, and may be two of the best one-on-one defenders in the league. Both possess a tremendous soccer IQ and are critical to our overall success."

Toby, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, has been with the Silver Knights since the club's inception in 2011. The consistency of his performances has earned him a reputation as one of the toughest defenders in the MASL. Schindler who started with the Rochester Lancers in 2011 and joined the Silver Knights in 2015/16 season has been a model of consistency for the Silver Knights on their back line. Hall cited Schindler and Toby's experience and chemistry working together for the last two years as a no brainer to have these two work horses back with the team. "I am very excited to bring both Darren and Jake back for another year. They are two outstanding people with the right characteristics to help us win a championship", added general manager Tommy Tanner.

Schindler and Toby get their chance to defend their net when the Silver Knights open their 2017/2018 campaign on the road vs the Turlock Express on Friday, November 3 in California. The Knights return home for their home opener November 10 at 7:05pm vs the Ontario Fury at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
