Two to be Inducted into Danger Hall of Fame as Danger Take on Empire
June 9, 2016 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Nebraska Danger News Release
GRAND ISLAND, NE - The Nebraska Danger will look to do their part to lock up a playoff berth on Friday night against the Intense Conference's #1 seed, the Spokane Empire. The Danger can secure a spot in the playoffs with a win and a loss by the Tri-Cities Fever.
Quarterback troubles have doomed the Danger in recent weeks after two-time MVP Jameel Sewell was signed to the Canadian Football League. Looking to bring in someone with experience at quarterback in the indoor game, Head Coach Mike Davis signed veteran quarterback Hunter Wanket this week. Wanket battled with Sewell for the starting role in the 2013 pre-season before leaving to take the starting position for the Bemidji Axemen.
"Hunter is a proven product that we have already had the chance to see up close," Davis said. "We have been struggling to get all the pieces to fall together at the same time this season, but we have a lot of faith in Hunter to get the job done for us. I'm excited to see what he can do on Friday night."
Also back this week are two key components from the injured reserve list. Running back Lyle McCombs & defensive back Okechukwu Okoroha will both be back in action this week after recovering from injuries.
Additionally, two outstanding individuals will be inducted into the Nebraska Danger Hall of Fame during halftime of Friday night's game against the Empire.
Mike McCoy - As General Manager of the Nebraska Danger for the first five seasons, Mike McCoy helped guide the creation of the Nebraska Danger. From ordering turf and dasher boards, to bringing hundreds of groups and thousands of school students to games, McCoy played an integral part in all team operations. Mike used his experience working with numerous indoor football franchises to bring the best practices to Grand Island, which helped the Danger to lead the league in attendance for three seasons, be named Franchise of the Year in 2014, and earned Mike the distinction as the 2013 IFL Executive of the Year. McCoy transitioned to work full-time as Director of Business Development for the IFL following the 2015 season.
Pig Brown - For four straight seasons, Cornelius "Pig' Brown was the heart and soul of the Danger Defense from his linebacker position. As the vocal leader of the team, Brown led the team in tackles for three of his four seasons, compiling a career record of 319 total tackles, 15.5 sacks and 9 interceptions."¨Pig's signature dreadlocks made him a fan favorite as he flew across the field, shutting down many opponents' running games. As a veteran of the indoor football game, Brown acted like an on-field coach for rookie players, helping them adjust to the indoor game. After helping the Danger earn three straight Intense Conference Championships, Brown retired from football following the 2015 season.
Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Friday night at the Heartland Events Center. Doors open at 6:00 with pre-game activities beginning at 6:30.
Tickets for Friday night are available at area Pump & Pantry stores, the Heartland Events Center Box Office, or via Ticketmaster. The game will be broadcast live on 2DayFM 103.1, or streamed live at www.2dayfm1031.com with live video available at IFLLive.TV.
Following the game, an autograph party with Players and Coaches will take place on the Danger turf.
