Chicago Bandits News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Chicago Bandits GM, Aaron M. Moore, announced the re-signing of shortstop Tammy Williams for the 2015 season this afternoon. This will be her sixth season in a Bandits uniform.

Drafted out of Northwestern University in 2009, Williams quickly became known as one of the top defensive players in the NPF, taking home both Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors

"Re-signing Tammy Williams was easily one of the Top 3 things on our offseason to-do list," said Moore. "The middle of your infield is so important and we easily have one of the best shortstops to play the game in a Bandits uniform.

"It seems like she is only getting better with age. She is a player that you want on your team and hate playing against. We're very excited that she'll be back in 2015 and believe that she'll be in top form once the season begins in June."

After spending 2010 overseas with Team Denzo of the Japanese Softball League and playing with Team USA, Williams returned to the NPF with the same fierce competitiveness that made people take notice in her rookie season.

She racked up a number of accomplishments in 2014, including posting 31 RBIs and nine home runs, both personal career highs in the NPF, which tied her for second best on the Bandits, while finishing with a .342 batting average. A human highlight reel on defense, Williams earned Defensive Player of the Year honors at the NPF Awards banquet after finishing with a league leading 105 assists, including 60 putouts and a .965 fielding percentage.

The Bandits even found themselves on ESPN last season thanks to Williams who turned a 6-4-3 triple play against the Akron Racers that was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays.

Williams' enters the 2015 with a career batting average of .322 having collected 193 hits in 600 at-bats. She has blasted 25 career homeruns and driven in 96 runs.

The veteran is not only excited to be back for another season, but to see the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) expanding.

"I'm honored to put on the Bandits uniform for another year," said Williams. "This year is especially exciting with the addition of the Dallas Charge.

She continued, "I'm looking forward to all the new faces that will be a part of the Bandits family and working together to bring back a championship to Rosemont!"

Williams is currently in her second season as the assistant coach for DePaul University in Chicago, Ill.

The Bandits home opener is set for Thursday, June 4 when the Bandits host the Akron Racers at The Ballpark at Rosemont. Single-game tickets for all 2015 home games, including the home opener, will go on sale Monday, February 16 at 10 a.m. CT.
