Indianapolis Ice News Release

PRACTICE SCHEDULE: The Ice practices Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Pepsi Coliseum and has a pre-game skate on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Pepsi Coliseum.

CATCH SOME ZZZZ's: Rookie goaltender Brent Zelenewich registered his first pro victory in grand style by pitching a 27-save shutout in Saturday night's 1-0 overtime win over Odessa. The first-year netminder out of St. Mary's University in Nova Scotia has given up just two goals in his two starts and enters this week's play with a miniscule 0.94 goals-against-average and a stellar .962 save percentage.

BERNIE BURNIN' UP: All-star defenseman Bernie John leads the Ice in scoring this year with six points (2G, 4A) and is the only Ice player to have at least a point in all six games this season. His six-game point streak is currently second best in the CHL behind only Derek Landmesser (Memphis) and Patrick Nilson (Laredo), who are riding seven-game point streaks. John, who recorded a ten-game point streak back in 1999-00 with the Ice, is also just two assists shy of the Ice franchise record (IHL and CHL) of 209 career assists held by Chris MacKenzie.

POWERLESS POWER PLAY: After netting three power play goals in its first game of the season, the Ice has not scored a goal on the power play in its last 26 attempts. The power play drought has dropped them to 15th in the CHL (3-33, 9.1%). Last season, Indy finished the year fifth on the power play with a 17.9% clip (56-313). PLAYER PLUGS: Russ Guzior has two assists in his last two games which brings him just two helpers shy of 150 for his pro career....Since arriving last season in a November trade with Oklahoma City, Jared Dumba has lit up his former squad with seven goals...Bernie John is the all-time leading scorer against Oklahoma City with 25 points (7G, 18A)....Jason Baird has a penalty in five consecutive games.

TEAM TAKES: Indy's 1-0 win on Saturday over Odessa was only the second 1-0 victory in the team's CHL history (The Ice defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths 1-0 in a shootout on 11/12/99)...The Ice was 5-1-0 against Oklahoma City last season...The Ice is 1-9-0 (including the 2003 playoffs) in its last ten games against Memphis... The Ice has scored the first goal of the game in five of its six games this year....The Ice has played four one-goal games this season...The Ice blasted 22 shots in the 2nd period and 45 shots for the game this past Saturday which were both Ice highs this season.
