San Angelo Colts News Release
Robstown, TX---After getting rained out the night before, San Angelo played two seven inning contests, scored six times in both games of a twi-night double-header, as they sweep Coastal Bend on Monday. Colts won game one behind Ezequiel Astacio's terrific pitching performance 6-0 and game two behind another good start from Chandler Barnard, winning by a final of 6-2 to take both ends of a double dip.
In game one the story was Ezequiel Astacio, as the Colts starter put up perhaps the Colts pitching performance of the year. San Angelo got on the board first scoring two in the third on an RBI double by Ronnie Gaines and Jason Crosland followed with an RBI single, to make it 2-0 Colts. San Angelo got a solo run in the fourth on an RBI double by Tyler Goodro and the Colts were up 3-0. The Colts struck again for two more in the fifth as the red hot Collazo drove in two more with a single and the Colts were up 5-0. San Angelo scored in the fourth straight inning, getting a run in the sixth on an infield RBI single by Ronnie Gaines, his second RBI of the game, and it was 6-0 Colts, which would be the final. The Colts get their first shutout of the year, but the real story in this game was Ezequiel Astacio who threw a seven inning complete games four hit shutout. Astacio did not walk a batter while striking out eight.
In game two, Colts starter Chandler Barnard had a quality start and again the Colts offense backed their starter with another six pack in a game two win, by a final score of 6-2. Jason Crosland sac fly RBI in the first allowed the Colts to get out in front again as they lead 1-0 before the Thunder could even bat. Coastal Bend evened it up though on an RBI ground out by Brian Nichols and it was 1-1 after one. Tyler Goodro who had an RBI double in game one had another in game two as he broke the tie in the second to make it 2-1 Colts. The next batter Butch Ballez hit a long foul ball for a sac fly RBI that gave the Colts a two run lead at 3-1. The Thunder closed it to 3-2, on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third by Ron Fenwick, but that would be as close as they would get. The big blow would come in the fifth on a two-run shot by Landon Camp (6) to make it 5-2 and add another run in the sixth on a Mark Ramos RBI single to make it 6-2, which would be the final. The Colts get their first double-header sweep of the year as Chandler Barnard went five innings allowing two runs, on three hits, walking one while striking out four.
On Tuesday the Colts try to take three of four from Coastal Bend as pair of southpaws match up. It will be the Colts left-hander Aaron Cunningham (3-4, 5.19) against lefty Frank James (3-2, 4.18) for the Thunder. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
