Roadrunners Have No Answer For Broncos

The Edinburg Roadrunners are now 3-7 on the season against the Laredo Broncos after a 13-2 loss Sunday night at Veterans Field.

The ball game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when a wild pitch allowed Salvador Paniagua to score from third. Nick Mahin followed with an RBI single that allowed Jonathan Cisneros to score giving Laredo the 2-0 lead.

Ryan Flynn started the bottom of the fourth with a walk and then moved to second on a throwing error by Edinburg starter Mike Reeves (4-3). Michael Murphy then hit an RBI single to center field that allowed Flynn to score extending Laredo's advantage to 3-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, D.J. Dixon hit his fourth home run of the season extending the Broncos lead 4-0.

The Roadrunners (31-16) got their first run of the game in the top of the seventh without getting a hit. Vincent Blue started the inning with a walk and then moved to third on throwing error by the Broncos. Melvin Perez followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Blue to score making it 4-1 Laredo.

The Broncos (24-27) extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh scoring six runs on eight hits against Edinburg reliever Aaron Guerra making it 10-1.

Julio Castro allowed the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth and an RBI single by Dixon scored Carlos Arroyo from third. With two outs, a throwing error by the Roadrunners defense allowed Kenneth Gilbert and Salvador Paniagua to score extending the Broncos lead 13-1.

Edinburg added a run in the top of the ninth with a solo home run from Alexis Hernandez off of Laredo reliever Wade Townsend. After a walk to Osiel Flores and a single by Perez, Townsend retired the side giving Laredo the 13-2 victory.

Jeff Jamnik (2-1) picked up the win after allowing one run while scattering six hits in seven innings pitched. The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the third game of this four-game series Monday night at Veterans Field. Mark DiBernardo is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
