River City Rascals News Release

The Frontier League office announced today that two members of the River City Rascals have been named to the Western Division roster for the Frontier League All-Star Game held at UC Health Stadium on Wednesday, July 13th. Closer Zac Treece and catcher Josh Ludy will be the Rascals representatives and were voted in by general managers, field managers, coaches, radio broadcasters and members of the local media around the six organizations in the western division.

The 2016 All-Star Game is the third Frontier League honor for both Treece and Ludy as Treece was selected in 2013 from the Grizzlies and 2014 from the Lake Erie Crushers. For the Rascals catcher/hitting coach, Ludy is selected for the third consecutive year and will play along with Grizzlies catcher Tyler Tewell and CornBelters catcher Dylan Kelly.

Zac Treece, who was traded to the Rascals last season, has been lights out as manager Steve Brook's closer. Treece leads the team with eight saves and in 22 1/3 innings of work, he has a team leading 40 strikeouts and has allowed runs in just three of his 19 appearances for a 2.02 ERA. He held opponents scoreless in nine appearances (10 innings) from May 31st to June 17th and during that stretch only four hits were recorded off him and his opponents' batting average dropped to season best .138 on June 14th after a save against Normal. League wise, Treece ranks second among relievers in strikeouts and in his career he has a 9.52 strikeouts per nine innings pitched ratio.

"I have had a really good season this year as a closer. My other two all-star games I was a set-up man or a starter so I am pretty pumped for it. It's definitely an honor that people think highly of me and I am glad I get the shot to go there," Treece said. "However, we still have seven games left before the break and I want to take the season one game at a time instead of looking ahead to the future. Wins are more important right now."

Josh Ludy is a right-handed hitter that was originally a 2012 draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies out of Baylor University and then signed with River City prior to the 2014 season and has made the All-Star team ever since. In his third year with the Rascals, Ludy is currently sixth in the Frontier League in batting average at a .329 mark and leads the team with 48 hits in 40 games. The catcher also leads the team with 15 multi-hit games and has one home run and 18 RBI. His best stretch came towards the beginning of the year and after going 17-31 to open up the month of June, Ludy led the league in batting average at a .400.

"It's an honor to be a part of the all-star game for the third year in a row," Ludy said. "But honestly anything we do as a team is a lot more important than that will ever be."

The All-Star Game will feature a roster of 27 for each of the Western and Eastern Divisions of the Frontier League. Besides the two Rascals, the host Florence Freedom had one, Grizzlies with three while the CornBelters, Otters and the Southern Illinois Miners lead the way with six each. Due to the Miners being on top of the Western Division, their coaching staff will manage the game and will make the final three selections for their division which will be announced on July 7th.
