Two Junior Blue Jackets commit to Division-I schools
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Junior Blue Jackets defenseman Pat Goebel (Mercyhurst) and forward Dan Durham (Air Force) have given verbal commitments to play hockey at Division-I schools, General Manager Don Harkins announced today.
Goebel has five goals and eight assists in 31 games this season with the Junior Blue Jackets and has agreed to play at Mercyhurst College next season.
"Mercyhurst is a great fit for Pat," said Harkins. "It's close to home, and his play and leadership abilities will definitely be a benefit to him."
Durham will continue his hockey career at the Air Force Academy, beginning in 2009. The Chicago, Ill., native has recorded four points in 29 games thus far this season.
"We're happy for both of these guys," said Harkins. "Our job is to move them to Division-I hockey, and I know Pat and Dan will succeed with their hockey endeavors."
The team has also announced the arrival of forward Tommy Cross. Cross, who was selected 35th overall by the Boston Bruins in June's NHL Draft, will be in action when the Junior Jackets host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders Feb. 1 and 2. Game times are set for 8 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
