
Two Icehawks Goalies Receive League Honors

PORT HURON, MI - Two Port Huron Icehawks goaltenders have received honors from the International Hockey League, the league announced Monday. Larry Sterling was selected as Goalie of the Month for January and Ryan Mior was named Rookie of the Month for January and also Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 1.
Sterling finished the month with a 5-2-2-0 record in ten games played. In five of those games, he allowed two or fewer goals against. He made nine consecutive starts for the Icehawks in January and posted five straight wins (Jan. 3- Jan. 15) to help keep the Icehawks at the top of the league standings. He finished the month with 265 total saves, a .914 save percentage and a 2.66 goals against average in 10 games played.
The 26-year old native of Lake Orion, Michigan currently leads all IHL goaltenders in wins (18), minutes played (1882:37) and saves (814). This is his second league honor this season. He was named Goalie of the Week in Week 12 of IHL action.
Mior has been stellar between the pipes since signing with the Icehawks on January 20. He posted a 3-1-0-1 record in January, with two of his wins coming in the form of a shutout. During the month he made 105 saves and allowed just five goals against, recording a .955 save percentage and a 1.23 goals against average.
The 21-year old native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada earned his first professional shutout in his first Icehawks start on January 24 versus Kalamazoo. His second shutout came in his third start on January 30 versus Fort Wayne.
Mior was also named Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 1. He completed the week with a 2-1-0-0 record, a 1.66 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. He turned away 34 of 35 shots faced on Tuesday to lead the Icehawks to a 2-1 victory over Muskegon. On Friday, he stopped all 25 shots faced to blank the Komets 4-0.
The Icehawks return to action this week with a home and home series versus the Kalamazoo Wings. They host the K-Wings on Wednesday and travel to Kalamazoo on Friday.
