
IHL Announces Monthly Honors

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington forward Jon Booras has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Month, Port Huron goaltender Ryan Mior has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Month, and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month for January.
Booras finished the month of January with 19 points (8g, 11a) and a plus-7 rating in 13 games played. He scored points in 11 of the 13 games played, with five of those being multi-point games. He scored six of his 19 points on the special teams, notching in one shorthanded goal and one power play goal and dished out one shorthanded assist and three assists on the man advantage. Booras currently leads the PrairieThunder in scoring with 56 points (23g, 33a) in 41 games played. He needs just one point to match last years total of 57 points, which he recorded in 74 games last season. The 26-year-old Billings, Montana native enters the month of February on a four-game point streak, registering three goals and three assists (six points) during that span.
Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Month include: Flint center Greg Bullock, Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin, Kalamazoo forward Mark Nebus, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll.
Mior has been stellar between the pipes for the Icehawks since joining the team on January 20th. He posted a 3-1-0-1 record for the month of January, earning a shutout in his first IHL start. The shutout came on January 24th when he closed the door on 18 shots from Kalamazoo. Mior also earned his second shutout in just three starts on January 30th in Fort Wayne, making a total of 25 saves. He finished the month making 105 saves with a .955 save percentage. The 21-year-old St. John's, Newfoundland native only allowed five goals against, giving him a 1.23 goals against average for the month.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik, Flint right wing Zach Pearson, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Kalamazoo center Tommy Lange and Muskegon left wing Alec Kirschner.
Sterling completed the month posting a 5-2-2-0 record in 10 games played. He made nine straight starts for the Icehawks during the month of January. He won five straight games from January 3rd to January 15th. Sterling had a total of 265 saves, giving him a .914 save percentage and a 2.66 goals against average in 10 games played. He had five games where he allowed two or fewer goals against him. The 26-year-old Lake Orion, Michigan native currently leads all IHL goaltenders in wins (18), minutes played (1882:37) and saves (814).
Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month include: Bloomington's Ryan Ludzik, Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Joel Martin and Muskegon's Clayton Pool.
