
IHL Announces Weekly Honors

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington forward Jan Jas has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron goaltender Ryan Mior has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Muskegon goaltender Clayton Pool has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 1st, 2009.
Jas finished the week scoring four points (3g, 1a). He scored a hat trick Friday against his former team, the Flint Generals. The hat trick was just the third in Bloomington franchise history. Jas scored the game-winning goal in an 11-round shootout Wednesday to lift the PrairieThunder to a 4-3 shootout victory over Fort Wayne. Saturday, his second goal of his hat trick proved to be the game winning goal in a 5-3 win over Flint. The 30-year-old Presov, Slovakia native has registered 17 points (9g, 8a) since joining the PrairieThunder on December 30th.
Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Flint forward Greg Bullock, Fort Wayne right wing David Hukalo, Kalamazoo defenseman Casey Handrahan, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll.
Mior completed Week 16 of the IHL season starting three straight games, earning a 2-1-0-0 record. He had five goals against, giving him a 1.66 goals against average and a .947 save percentage for the week. Mior stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced Tuesday to lead the Icehawks to a 2-1 victory over Muskegon, where he also recorded an assist on Port Huron's first goal of the night. Friday, he recorded his second shutout of the season, turning aside all 25 shots he faced from the Komets. The 21-year-old St. John's, Newfoundland made a total of 86 saves over the three game span, helping keep the Icehawks in first place in the IHL.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik, Flint right wing Zach Pearson, Fort Wayne center Maxime Gravelle, Kalamazoo forward Bryan Jurynec and Muskegon left wing Alec Kirschner.
Pool had another dominate week for the Lumberjacks, posting a 2-1-0-0 record, a 1.34 goals against average and a .957 save percentage. He only allowed four goals against in three games, earning a shutout Friday against Kalamazoo. Pool turned aside all 33 shots he faced from the K-Wings, getting the first shutout for Muskegon this season. The 30-year-old Abbotsford, British Columbia native has appeared in 16 straight games for Muskegon, starting in 14 of those. Pool currently leads all IHL goaltenders in save percentage with .921.
Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Ryan Ludzik, Fort Wayne's Sebastien Laplante, Kalamazoo's Joel Martin and Port Huron's Ryan Mior.
