Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN --- Following their ArenaCup Championship last season, the Memphis Xplorers had 12 players sign with AFL teams and two of those players were named to All-AFL Teams this week. OL/DL Khreem Smith of the Chicago Rush was named to the AFL All-Rookie Team and the All-AFL Second Team. DS Dahnel Singfield of the New York Dragons joined Smith on the All-Rookie Team. Smith was the only rookie to be named All-AFL. The AFL concluded its 20th regular season last weekend.
"I am excited for both Khreem Smith and Dahnel Singfield," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "Both players were a huge part of our success last year. It just reaffirms that (Xplorers Director of Player Personnel) Chris Bauer and myself keep going after the right type of player year in and year out."
Smith, the 2005 af2 Lineman of the Year, finished the AFL regular season second in the league with 8 sacks. Smith led af2 with a Memphis franchise record 17 sacks last season. Singfield, the 2005 af2 Defensive Player of the Year, finished this season tied for 8th in the AFL with 7 INT He had a franchise record and af2 leading 12 INT last season. Both the Rush and Dragons have qualified for the AFL postseason that begins this weekend.
Bauer says that the success of Smith and Singfield reflects on the successful program and system that he and Barto have developed with the Xplorers.
"When Coach Barto gets his opportunity in the AFL, his vast knowledge of NFL level talent will allow him to have considerable success at that next level," Bauer said.
Smith and Singfield are two of three players on the All-Rookie Team that played in af2 last season. The other player, Orlando's Javarus Dudley, played five games with the Florida Firecats in 2005.
