Manchester Wolves News Release

The Manchester Wolves, New England's professional arenafootball2 team, announced today that offensive specialist/kick returner Jamaal Perry is joining the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

Perry (5-9, 175) was close to not even joining the Wolves for their 2006 campaign after signing with the Ottawa Renegades of the CFL in the 2005 off-season. However after the Renegade franchise surprisingly folded Perry returned to Manchester, only to find out a couple weeks later that he was picked up by Calgary in a dispersal draft.

"Playing in the CFL will be a great opportunity for me to add another dimension to my game," said Perry on his new adventure. "It'll be hard leaving the Wolves because everyone here has treated me like family, I'll always remember the good times and people here in Manchester."

In just four games for the Wolves this season the Marietta, Ga. native ranked second on the squad in receptions (35) and receiving yards (373), while ranking third on the team in touchdowns with seven. Perry's 8.75 receptions per game ranked him third against all of his competitors in the entire af2 league, teammate Steve "Speedy" Gonzalez holds down the top spot with 9.50.

The Hofstra University graduate played a starring role as a rookie for the Wolves' 2005 East Division Championship team, as he led the team with 2,132 all-purpose yards, ranking him eighth in the af2. Perry played in all 17 games last season, and further established himself as a team leader by ranking second in both receptions (91) and receiving yards (1,004), as well as third in receiving touchdowns with 12.

"Jamaal is a great kid, and you always hate to see someone of his talent leave," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "However, we'll be fine without him, and we wish him the best in Canada."

The Wolves take to Brady Sullivan Field Perry-less this Saturday May 20th for "Military Appreciation Night" against the 5-1 Florida Firecats at 7:30 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The night is sponsored by Delta Dental and AAA, as the first 4,000 fans in attendance will receive a FREE Delta Dental/ Wolves Toothbrush. AAA will also be raffling off great prizes each quarter, including a trip for two to New York City to see the "Rockettes" and a three-night stay at the Hotel Edison with roundtrip motor coach transportation!!!
