Cleveland Force News Release

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force forward and team captain John Ball and defender Genoni Martinez were both selected as the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respectively for the seven-day period ending March 13. The Force has had a player selected to the Player of Week on six occasions this season but it marked the first time that a player was selected Offensive Player of the Week.

Ball earns his first honor of the season after posting a pair of hat tricks that helped pace Cleveland to two victories last weekend over the Baltimore Blast and Chicago Storm. The 10-year veteran of the franchise started the season off as a defender but has moved up to the front line. He has recorded three consecutive hat tricks and has four total on the season. Ball is tied for third in the league in scoring with 41 points while leading the league in goals versus the sixth attacker with four.

Martinez, the two-time defending MISL Defensive Player of the Year, takes home his second honor of the season but his first as a member of the Force. The 30-year old native of Mexico City tallied his first hat trick with Cleveland on Friday night while also tallying an assist for a season-high tying four points. Genoni followed up with two goals and an assist as well as a game-high five blocks in Sunday's contest. In eight games since joining the Force, Martinez has accumulated eight goals and 19 points while blocking 13 shots. For the season, he has recorded 12 goals, 26 points, and 20 blocks in 14 appearances. He was also named Defensive Player of the Week on December 6 as a member of the Monterrey Fury.

John and Genoni join goalkeeper Jim Larkin and defender Matt Johnson as the other Force players honored by the MISL this season. Larkin has been tabbed as the Goalkeeper of the Week on three occasions while Johnson garnered the Defensive Player of the Week on February 7.

The Force will next travel to the Windy City to take on to the expansion Chicago Storm on Saturday, March 19. The game can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM in Cleveland as well as 1440 AM WHKW in Warren/Youngstown or worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com starting at 8:00 p.m.
