
Two Force members to participate in Futsal qualifier

CLEVELAND, OHIO â Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo announced today that defender/midfielder John Ball and forward Lee Edgerton will join the U.S. National Futsal Team for a two-game CONCACAF Tournament Qualifier May 18 and May 20 at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The winner of the total goal series will advance to the eight-team CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Costa Rica in late July to determine CONCACAF's two representatives to the FIFA Futsal World Championship, which will be held in Chinese Taipei Nov. 22 â Dec. 12, 2004.
Futsal, the international version of indoor soccer, is a derivative of the outdoor game played with five players on each side (four field players and a goalkeeper) utilizing a limited-bounce ball on an open (wall-less) court slightly bigger than a basketball court.
The U.S. Team, which again will be led by Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Keith Tozer, will feature 16 of its 17 members on Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) rosters. Besides Ball and Edgerton of the Force, six other teams in the MISL are represented with players on the U.S Futsal squad featuring four players from the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast, two from the Kansas City Comets, five from the Milwaukee Wave, two from the Philadelphia KiXX and one from the St. Louis Steamers.
Ball appeared in all 36 games and notched 13 goals and added 14 assists for 27 points this past season for Cleveland. In addition, John led the team in blocks with 50. He was tabbed as the MISL Defender of the Week on one occasion this season. In his nine-year career, Ball has recorded 155 goals and added 98 assists for a total of 408 points.
Edgerton appeared in all 36 games and finished the season tied for first on the team in scoring with 38 points. Lee recorded a team-high 28 points, added 15 assists and had 11 blocks. He was selected as the Force Offensive Player of the Year. During his eight-year career, Edgerton has recorded 131 goals and added 84 assists for a total of 269 points.
