(Westport, Conn., May 6, 2004) – Milwaukee Wave forward Greg Howes was named the MISL Most Valuable Player on Thursday. Howes wins his first MISL MVP award after completing the 2003-04 regular season as the League's Spalding Scoring Champion Award winner. Playing in 36 games for the Central Division Champion Wave, the 27-year-old forward led all MISL scorers in points (85) and goals (57), and finished in a fifth-place tie in assists (28).

Voting for the MISL MVP followed the conclusion of the League's 162-game regular season, and preceded the MISL Championship Series. Howes was a near unanimous selection by the 40-member panel, which included team executives and media representatives from each of the MISL's nine host cities. Voters cast first-, second-, and third-place votes. A first-place vote was worth five points, a second-place vote was worth three points, and a third-place vote was worth one point. Howes received 38 first-place votes and was the second-place selection on the two remaining ballots.

"This is a great honor," Howes said. "Anytime you're named the MVP of this League, or of anything, you can hold your head high.

"I think it was having more confidence that really helped me this year. I knew coming into the season that I belonged. I knew that if I wanted to be a top scorer, I'd have to start from game one and play every game like it was a playoff game."

In four seasons in the MISL – all with Milwaukee – Howes has scored 153 goals (78 assists) in 153 regular season games. He's hasn't missed a game since Dec. 12, 2000, and has now played in 164 straight games, when you include the postseason.

The Tacoma, Wash., native set a Wave record with five, four-goal games during the 2003-04 season. He was named the MISL Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions (Nov. 3, Dec. 8, Mar. 8), and was the MISL Offensive Player of the Month for December, February and March. "We are very proud of Greg's accomplishments this year," Wave head coach Keith Tozer said. "This is a huge honor, not only for Greg, but for the entire Wave organization."
