FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa's two bicycle kick goals from the 2019 season have advanced through to the USL Championship's "Goal of the Year" bracket to meet in the finals, guaranteeing an FC Tulsa goal will win the league's honor. Voted on by the fans, Rodrigo da Costa's goal against Fresno FC on August 31 and Tobenna Uzo's goal against New Mexico United on October 10 will vie for the title through an online vote that ends on December 16.
It will be the first time that a FC Tulsa goal has won the "Goal of the Year" since it joined the USL Championship prior to the 2015 season.
Da Costa's goal, which was named the "Goal of the Month" for the month of August, secured 53% of the 1,838 votes in the semifinal against Connor Presley from Loudoun United FC.
Uzo, meanwhile, beat Faris Abdi from Austin Bold FC in the other semifinal with 56% of the 2,285 votes with his own "Goal of the Month" from October.
FC Tulsa was one of just two USL Championship teams with multiple entries in the 16-goal bracket and were the only team to have two entries advance past the first round. Both da Costa and Uzo's goals advanced through the bracket thanks to the votes from the FC Tulsa fanbase.
